At BWW we always promote local. Choosing to stay on the Galapagos Islands ensures your money remains here and directly benefits the local community. Plus, it’s a great way to appreciate how special these ‘lands that time forgot’ are, whilst immersing yourself fully into Island life.
We’ve put together a 12-day itinerary that showcases two very different Galapagos islands, topped and tailed with a visit to Ecuador.

Quito – Artists & Chocolatiers
Your adventure begins in beautiful Quito, the colonial capital of Ecuador. A two-night stay in the city centre will have you right in the heart of this UNESCO world city. During your visit we can arrange a guided tour which can include a visit and a session with a local artist. The day ends with a visit to an artisan chocolatier and a chance for the family to sample his delicious wares.

San Cristobel, Galapagos Islands
A swift two-hour flight will take you to San Cristobel, one of the smaller Galapagos Islands. We love San Cristobel, it doesn’t see as many tourists as Santa Cruz and therefore has a more ‘underdeveloped’ vibe to it.
During your time here we can arrange for you to join a beach ‘clear up’. The Galapagos Islands are suffering from plastics being washed up on their beaches. Joining locals and making a difference is a great way to spend an afternoon whilst here. Any trips to the national parks require a qualified, local guide. Ours are the very best who have a wealth of information on the islands and what it has been like growing up in such a unique environment.
Whilst on San Cristobel you’ll take a diving/snorkelling trip to the famous ‘Kicker Rock’. Here you’ll get the opportunity to swim beside turtles, sea lions and every colour of fish. (Check out our blog on scuba diving with children).

Santa Cruz – Conservation & breeding programmes
Today you’ll take a private boat and head over to the main island in Galapagos, Santa Cruz. Once here you’ll meet your guide who will whisk the family off to the Darwin Research Station. You’ll learn all about the tortoise breeding programme and find out why Darwin was so important to these incredible islands.
During your visit to Santa Cruz we have arranged trips out to Bartolome Island for some more diving, a trip to a conservation ranch that is part of the tortoise breeding programme and a fascinating meander through lava tunnels.

Hacienda, Ecuador
Today you’ll head back to Quito from Santa Cruz. Your accommodation for the next two nights is a Hacienda owned by a former president of Ecuador. The children can enjoy choosing the best horse for them to go riding on, spend time feeding the Alpacas and learning about a Condor conservation programme that is trying to protect the handful of beautiful Condors left in this part of the world.
You’ll leave the Hacienda for Quito’s international airport before heading home, with a bucket full of memories to last a lifetime.
